Louisiana Governor Signs Bill Classifying Abortion Pills as Controlled Dangerous Substances

Louisiana, oh Louisiana, what are you doing? As if the state didn’t have enough issues already, now they have gone ahead and signed a bill that classifies abortion pills as controlled dangerous substances. Possession without a valid prescription can now land you up to five years in prison. Five years for simply possessing medication that has been safely used in 96 countries around the world since 1988. It’s mind-boggling and downright ridiculous.

The hypocrisy in all of this is staggering. While they claim that pregnant people who obtain the medications for their own use will not be prosecuted, the reality is that this new law sets a dangerous precedent.… Continue reading

Trump on Restricting Access to Contraception: ‘We’re Looking at That’

As a woman who has never had sex and may not anytime soon, I have still experienced the benefits of contraception. For three years, birth control pills helped me manage the severe symptoms of PMS, including anxiety, depression, and Tourette’s tics. It allowed me to lead a normal, happy life without the constant cloud of hormonal fluctuations affecting my well-being. The thought that access to contraception could be restricted is deeply concerning and infuriating.

The recent statement by Donald Trump indicating a potential restriction on access to contraception is alarming. The fact that he is even considering such a policy is a stark reminder of the threats looming over women’s reproductive rights.… Continue reading

More than 60% of Americans say abortion should be legal, poll finds

More than 60% of Americans say that abortion should be legal, according to a recent poll. This number seems shockingly low to me, as I would expect the percentage to be much higher given the general consensus on this issue. It is disheartening to see that our voices, as the majority, may not always translate into policy changes or election outcomes. The fact that Republicans, who aim to outlaw all abortions without exception, continue to receive votes is truly baffling. It is crucial for us to vote out politicians who do not align with our values, especially when it comes to such critical issues like reproductive rights.… Continue reading

Tennessee woman denied abortion after fetus’ ‘brain not attached’ slams ban

I can’t even begin to comprehend the level of cruelty and ignorance that led to a Tennessee woman being denied an abortion after finding out that her fetus’ brain was not attached. It’s beyond devastating to think that she had to endure the pain of carrying a non-viable pregnancy to full term, losing an ovary, a fallopian tube, and her hopes for a large family in the process. The fact that lawmakers, who have no medical background, felt entitled to make decisions about her body and her future is utterly outrageous. It’s a clear violation of a woman’s right to make decisions about her own health and body.… Continue reading

Arizona governor signs bill to repeal state’s 1864 near-total abortion ban

I am ecstatic to hear that the Arizona governor has signed a bill to repeal the state’s 1864 near-total abortion ban. It is a monumental victory for reproductive rights and bodily autonomy. The fact that it took multiple attempts to pass this repeal due to GOP moderates dragging their feet shows the uphill battle that advocates for reproductive rights face.

The efforts to repeal this archaic law were led by legislative Democrats, with only a couple of Republicans in each chamber voting to repeal. The State Attorney General’s decision not to enforce the ban is a step in the right direction, although individual counties may still attempt to do so.… Continue reading

The GOP’s Worst Fears About the End of Roe v. Wade Have Come True

The GOP’s worst fears about the end of Roe v. Wade have started to unravel right before their eyes. It’s a chaotic scene unfolding, with states enacting harsh abortion bans, restrictions on IVF, and cruel, draconian laws that strip away reproductive rights. The recent decisions in Arizona, Florida, and Alabama are just the beginning of what could become a nightmare for women across the country. The Republican Party’s attempt to control women’s bodies and deny them basic freedoms is coming to a head, and it’s clear that their agenda is not in the best interest of the American people.

The sheer audacity of these laws, with no exceptions for rape or incest, is appalling.… Continue reading

Shouts of ‘Shame! Shame!’ erupt in Arizona House as fight over abortion ban engulfs lawmakers

The chaos and controversy surrounding the recent events in the Arizona House regarding the abortion ban have left me aghast. The shouts of ‘Shame! Shame!’ reverberating through the halls as lawmakers engage in a fierce battle over a law from the 1800s is a stark reminder of the regressive nature of politics in our society. The blatant corruption and power-hungry maneuvers on display are enough to make anyone’s blood boil.

The sheer audacity of the speaker to rush through the process without allowing a proper vote speaks volumes about the disregard for democracy and the will of the people. The accusations flying back and forth, with insinuations of extremist behavior and insurrection, only serve to muddy the waters further.… Continue reading

Donald Trump says he is ‘proudly the person responsible’ for ending Roe v Wade in abortion statement

I am truly astounded by Donald Trump’s recent statement claiming responsibility for ending Roe v Wade. The audacity and lack of empathy displayed by this man never fail to shock me. It leaves me wondering how many women he may have pressured or threatened into having abortions throughout his life.

It is alarming to see how Trump continues to push false claims about Democrats wanting abortion up to the ninth month of pregnancy and even execution after birth. The disrespect he shows towards women is truly disheartening. His blatant disregard for women’s rights and bodily autonomy is despicable.

The fact that Trump is proudly taking credit for ending Roe v Wade is a clear indication of his skewed priorities.… Continue reading

Florida Supreme Court puts abortion on the ballot – and hands Trump a serious problem

As a liberal Floridian, the recent decision by the Florida Supreme Court to put abortion on the ballot has left me both hopeful and cautious. The implications of this move are significant, not only for the state of Florida but also for the rest of the country. The fact that this decision could potentially drive voter turnout and impact the outcome of the upcoming election is both exciting and nerve-wracking.

It is clear that the issue of abortion continues to be a contentious one, with Republicans and Democrats at odds over the matter. The data showing that Democrats have fared better in elections where abortion has been on the ballot is both telling and encouraging.… Continue reading

Alabama Democrat Marilyn Lands, running on IVF ruling, flips Republican House seat

The recent news of Alabama Democrat Marilyn Lands flipping a Republican House seat by running on the issue of the IVF ruling is a significant victory for Democrats. Lands’ win, with a margin of around 28% in a previously red district, highlights the vulnerability of Republicans on issues like abortion and IVF. It is evident that the GOP’s stance on these matters is no longer resonating with voters, as seen by the election results.

Lands, a licensed professional counselor, managed to secure 62 percent of the vote, beating out her Republican opponent by a considerable margin. This outcome showcases the shifting tides in politics, where issues like reproductive rights and access to IVF treatment are gaining more traction among voters, both men and women.… Continue reading
