I can’t say I’m surprised by the news that a challenger to Russian President Vladimir Putin has been barred from running in the upcoming election. As someone who has been following Russian politics closely, it’s becoming increasingly clear that these elections are nothing more than a facade, a charade to maintain the illusion of democracy.

As I read the headline about the bill to ban displays of Satan in public property moving forward in the Senate, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. It seems like yet another example of right-wing politicians disregarding the principles of the U.S. Constitution. In just 25 words, this bill manages to violate three separate clauses of the First Amendment. It’s truly impressive how they can be against the constitution while claiming to be its biggest defenders.

As a Polish citizen, I find it absolutely baffling that the Republican Party in the United States, of all political factions, is the most pro-Russian. Here in Poland, we hold former President Reagan in high regard for his instrumental role in helping us gain independence in the late 1980s.
