As I read the heartbreaking news about the LAPD officer who will not face criminal charges in the killing of a 14-year-old girl at a store during a police confrontation with a suspect, I feel a surge of anger and frustration. The sheer injustice of the situation is mind-boggling, to say the least. The fact that a young life was senselessly taken and no one is being held accountable for it is beyond comprehension.

As I reflect on the recent news about USC banning the pro-Palestinian valedictorian from speaking at the May commencement due to safety concerns, I can’t help but feel conflicted. On one hand, I understand the university’s need to prioritize safety for all attendees, especially in today’s volatile climate where tensions run high on issues like the Israel-Palestine conflict. However, on the other hand, I can’t help but think about the implications of silencing a voice, even if it holds controversial or extreme views.

After all, Trump has a history of hurling insults and derogatory nicknames at his opponents, so why should he be exempt from a taste of his own medicine? The outrage from the Trump campaign seems hypocritical, considering the vitriol that has spewed from his own mouth.

The release of new footage depicting the Hamas kidnapping of Yarden Bibas is nothing short of horrifying. To imagine the sheer terror that must have been going through his mind as he was being abducted, all while knowing that his wife and two infant children, the famous red-headed kids, were undergoing the same ordeal or possibly something far worse, is truly gut-wrenching. As someone who believes in fighting for justice and standing up against oppression, I can understand the impulse to take to the streets and raise awareness for the Palestinian cause. However, the recent actions of pro-Palestinian demonstrators in Chicago and San Francisco have left me feeling conflicted and frustrated. To block traffic, disrupt the daily lives of innocent civilians, and wave flags of Hezbollah, a designated terrorist organization, does a disservice to the very cause they claim to support.

As a Latina myself, it’s frustrating and disheartening to see fellow Latinos supporting a president who clearly does not value or respect us.
