As a former employee of Walgreens, the news of the company closing a significant number of its 8,600 US locations doesn’t come as a shock to me. During my time working there, I witnessed firsthand the decline in employee policies and overall work environment. The company’s decision to pay minimum wage, cut staffing, and eliminate bonuses for years of service all contributed to a hostile and unsustainable work culture. It’s no wonder that customers experienced long wait times, empty shelves, and a lack of stock at various Walgreens locations.
The market saturation of large corporate pharmacies like Walgreens has been a long-standing issue, with multiple drugstore type stores and grocery stores within close proximity to each other.… Continue reading
As I reflect on the recent news that President Biden has pardoned those who were convicted of gay sex under old military laws, I am filled with a sense of relief and gratitude. It is heartwarming to see that these individuals, who were unjustly punished for being themselves, are finally being granted the opportunity to have their convictions overturned and their benefits reinstated.
It is truly astonishing to think that in this day and age, people could be prosecuted and imprisoned for simply engaging in consensual adult relationships. The fact that so many individuals had their military benefits withheld due to outdated and discriminatory laws is a stark reminder of the injustices that have persisted for far too long.… Continue reading
As I sat down to read the latest news, I was shocked and appalled to learn that the Supreme Court has wiped out an anti-corruption law that prohibited officials from taking gifts in exchange for past favors. It seems that the distinction between bribery, which involves an illegal deal, and a gratuity, which can be a gift or reward for a past favor, is now being used to justify accepting gifts after the fact without consequence. This ruling essentially legalizes corruption and bribery, as long as the bribe is given after the corrupt act has taken place.
What message does this send to the American people?… Continue reading
As I reflect on the recent news that homeless families will be barred from sleeping overnight at Logan International Airport, I can’t help but feel conflicted. On one hand, I understand the need to maintain order and cleanliness in a busy airport. It makes sense that officials want to ensure that terminals are not being turned into makeshift shelters for those who are experiencing homelessness. However, on the other hand, I can’t shake the feeling of compassion for those who find themselves in such dire circumstances that they have no choice but to seek refuge in public spaces like airports.
I have personally encountered instances where people were sleeping near airport terminals, and it was evident that they were homeless.… Continue reading
I am incredibly troubled by the recent decision of the judge to alter Trump’s gag order, allowing him to talk about witnesses and the jury after his hush money conviction. It feels like the judge is setting the stage for chaos and potential harm to individuals who were involved in the trial. The fact that protections for witnesses and jurors are no longer being upheld is deeply concerning.
The judge mentioned that the gag order was initially put in place to protect the integrity of judicial proceedings. However, how can the integrity of future proceedings be preserved if the safety and well-being of those involved are not being prioritized?… Continue reading
He flipped off a trooper and got charged. Now Vermont is on the hook for $175,000.
This incident of a man flipping off a Vermont state trooper, resulting in charges against him and a subsequent payout by the state of $175,000, raises some critical questions about authority and accountability. The fact that the state had to pay out such a significant amount for a first amendment violation is as concerning as it is outrageous. The trooper, identified as Jay Riggen, initiated this whole debacle over a simple gesture that should have been disregarded or, at most, reciprocated in jest.
Cases like these highlight the fine line between exercising one’s rights and facing repercussions from those in positions of authority.… Continue reading
As I read about the 8 arrested men with ties to ISIS feared to have been plotting a potential terrorist attack in the U.S., I couldn’t help but wonder what their endgame could possibly be. It’s baffling to me that these individuals, who are associated with such a notorious terrorist organization, would think that orchestrating an attack on American soil would go unnoticed or unpunished. History has shown us that when a tragedy like 9/11 occurs, the American response is swift and severe. The aftermath of such attacks often leads to prolonged conflicts and widespread devastation in the regions where these groups operate.… Continue reading
It seems like the news of Julian Assange reaching a plea deal with the U.S. and potentially going free has stirred up a lot of mixed emotions and opinions. Many people seem to have a deep-seated dislike for Assange, citing various reasons for their disdain. Some view him as a manipulative narcissist who only acted in his own self-interest, while others believe he is a hero for exposing government secrets and shedding light on illegal activities.
Looking back at the timeline of events surrounding Assange, it’s clear that his journey has been tumultuous and fraught with controversy. From his time holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy to the recent plea deal, Assange has been a polarizing figure to say the least.… Continue reading
As I sit here contemplating the news of locally transmitted dengue fever in Hillsborough County, Florida, my heart goes out to the individual who must endure the agonizing symptoms of this debilitating disease. I vividly recall my own encounter with Dengue fever, and I can attest to the excruciating ordeal it bestows upon its victims. The incessant fever, the chills that wrack your body, the rashes at each joint, the unbearable joint pain – it’s a nightmare that no one should have to endure.
The fact that dengue fever is now making its presence felt in Florida is alarming, to say the least.… Continue reading
I have been following the news closely, eagerly awaiting the day when the bankruptcy trustee would finally disclose the plan to shut down Alex Jones’ Infowars and liquidate his assets. I cannot express the sense of satisfaction and relief I felt when I read that justice might finally be catching up to this purveyor of dangerous misinformation and conspiracy theories.
It’s about time that someone took a stand against Alex Jones and his toxic brand of fear-mongering. For too long, he has spewed lies and deceit, profiting off the pain and suffering of others. The fact that Infowars was ever considered an asset is mind-boggling to me.… Continue reading
