I’m the Mayor of Minneapolis. Trump is Lying to You. At this point, I am convinced that many of Trump’s supporters are fully aware he’s lying. They know, but they embrace the lies because those lies align with their deeply held beliefs and serve their narrative. These are the people who embody the essence of bad faith antagonism. It’s a reality where many seemingly don’t care about the lies, the corruption, the declining state of the nation, their communities, or their neighbors. The focus is on team loyalty and scoring “librul tearz.”
We must acknowledge that decades of constant propaganda and attacks on education have been effective for the fascists. Now, we are facing a second wave of fascism, this time rooted on our own shores. We were warned, “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears.” We need more politicians willing to speak plainly. While I did not rank Frey #1 on my ballot, I am grateful for his willingness to call out these lies.
A.) If undocumented people’s tax records are being used to abduct them, it was never about them “leeching” off of society.
B.) If they are being taken from immigration court hearings, it was never about them doing it the “legal way”.
C.) If they are being abducted from work sites, it was never about them “freeloading”.
D.) If they are kidnapping children and the elderly with no criminal records, it was never about “criminals”.
E.) Reducing the issue to “legal” vs “illegal” is not an ethical argument. Slavery and the Holocaust were “legal”. Undocumented immigration is a civil offense, and is no grounds for tearing apart families of hardworking people.
F.) If they are doing it without due process, it was never about “America” because that is unconstitutional.
G.) If they are spending billions of dollars to do it, it was never about the economy.
H.) If you are doing all this in the name of a 34-time convicted felon and likely pedophile, it was never about doing “what’s right.” It is nothing more than bigotry. And they are, in fact, doing all of this.
Trump is lying to you. Truth has never been the priority, only winning. This is the global stance of his administration, and the consistent mindset of MAGA. If you view everything through this lens, it all makes sense, and you can predict the next move. Door-to-door incitement of violence, creating martial law and deferring elections indefinitely. The only lie Trump’s supporters might care about is that he will be a dictator for just one day. They are now content to see that the rule will be indefinite.
If Trump is talking, he is lying. It seems they are making no effort to hide their true nature and intentions, and it’s crystal clear if you have a functioning brain. The actions are reminiscent of the Nazis’ rise to power from the 1920s to the 1930s in their rise and control. The same steps are being taken in America. This is intentional. There are many people in this country who are glad to see their government kill a random citizen solely because they think it’s another score for their team.
I can’t find the words to adequately describe the situation. We are a decade into this, and we still have to say it: Trump is lying. As a Canadian, I only learned of the mayor’s name yesterday, but seeing how he communicates and is willing to stand up to Trump is inspiring.
I don’t know what kind of mayor he is for Minneapolis, but it’s clear he cares about it and its people. This is evident in the fact that when the Interstate 35W bridge collapsed in 2007, the Republican president at the time showed up ready to help. At that moment, politics stopped. Blue cities could once count on good-faith partnerships with the federal government under both Republican and Democratic administrations. Under the Biden administration, our police worked with federal agents to bring down shooting rates in North Minneapolis. But such partnerships are not the experience of big-city Democratic mayors under Trump. I learned that the hard way in 2020 during the civil unrest. I’ll never forget the shock I felt when President Trump not only encouraged violence, but denied federal approval for disaster relief.
On Wednesday, I didn’t feel that shock when I learned that a Minneapolis resident had been shot and killed by an ICE agent. The actions of the ICE agents deployed to my city are dangerous, and now, even deadly. But that danger has been compounded by the administration’s incredulous claims that the victim committed an act of domestic terrorism. The Trump administration’s false narrative about this week’s shooting, and the demonization of the victim, is only part of a bigger lie. It wants the American public to believe that ICE’s crackdown is an effort to keep cities like Minneapolis safe. It is not. It is about vilifying not just immigrants, but all who welcome them and their contributions. By defending the lie and refusing to allow Minnesota officials to investigate the crime, the administration is sending a message: Your rights will not be protected, and your life will be at risk if you support your immigrant neighbors.
The country has learned from watching Minneapolis that the federal government holds no regard for cities or the people who live in them. When coupled with the administration’s open contempt for democratic norms, this is a threat to the long-term endurance of our Republic. For those who face a similar situation, my advice is to build cities that work and love those streets and those citizens above any ideology. We can prove that welcoming and lifting up immigrants is good for our communities by doing it in our own cities.
The Trump Regime is a hostile terrorist organization. The Trump regime is definitionally a hostile terrorist organization. It’s using and threatening violence for political and ideological goals, aiming to create fear and coerce governments or populations. The key characteristics include politically motivated violence and intimidation tactics to influence audiences. He has deployed military units into cities and neighborhoods against the civilian population. They use aggressive tactic and overt violence against the civilian population, They are creating an environment of fear by design to achieve control. They’ve gotten rid of due process for a significant civilian population. They’ve sent their military forces into schools, terrorizing children. They’ve sent military forces to intimidate businesses they disagree with. They’re executing moms in the streets. This is all being done with an intent to influence far beyond the immediate victims.
Trump lies? No shit Sherlock. We know. I have the ability to observe and think critically. I already knew that every word out of his mouth is a lie. This has got me patriotic as fuck. Patriotism for the real America. The shining city on a hill welcoming all. Lit by Liberty’s torch and the promise of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
Trump is lying to you. That’s normal for him. I don’t even think he knows he lies anymore. He just spews whatever hallucination pops into his head. His lips are moving, so I generally take that as him lying.
I can only think of a handful of statements which were true: “I love the poorly educated,” “Smart people don’t like me,” “I’d date her if she wasn’t my daughter,” “They’ll impeach me if they take majority.” Those who support Trump are likely just holding onto their side, without paying attention, just hating the other side, ragebait, or simply bots.
