A reminder that Jan. 6 was ‘textbook terrorism’ is not just a statement; it’s a stark reflection of events, a brutal reminder of an attempted assault on the very foundations of American democracy. This wasn’t some spontaneous protest gone awry; it was a deliberate, coordinated effort to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. The evidence, as it continues to unfold, paints a picture of premeditation and intent, the hallmarks of terrorism.
The actions on that day—the invasion of the Capitol, the threats against elected officials, the violence inflicted upon law enforcement—mirror the tactics and goals of terrorist organizations worldwide. The aim was to instill fear, to destabilize, and to undermine the legitimacy of the government. This was a direct attack on the principles of self-governance, a calculated attempt to subvert the will of the people. The fact that this attack occurred within the United States, against its own institutions, adds another layer of complexity and horror to the event.
