Anti-ICE demonstrators chase off outnumbered far-right activists at Minneapolis rally.
Well, it seems like the spirit of Minneapolis is alive and well! Stories like these always bring a smile, and the recent clash between anti-ICE demonstrators and far-right activists certainly paints a vivid picture. Thirty years ago, back when I first arrived in Minneapolis, I recall learning about the city’s history with groups like SHARPS – Skin Heads Against Racial Prejudice. These folks, as I understand, had a firm handle on keeping the local Nazi skinheads from gaining any real foothold. It’s heartening to see that this tradition of standing up to hate continues today.
It’s clear that the far-right isn’t the majority view in America. Despite what we often see in the news, most people aren’t fans of Nazis. And honestly, it’s a bit comical to see them try and stir things up in a winter environment. Talk about a bad tactical decision! The police, thankfully, seemed to grasp the situation. Historically, we’ve seen law enforcement often protect these types of groups while they attempt to antagonize counter-protesters, but not this time. The right thing happened: they stood back and let the community stand up for itself. Those far-right activists were given a taste of their own medicine and were chased right out of town.
This whole situation really highlights the audacity of these groups. They showed up to agitate, to provoke, and to try and instigate. And, as they say, they failed. It’s fascinating how the narrative often gets twisted. Reports of “obscenities” shouted feel like a real softening of the language. When a group of people is trying to stir up trouble, there’s no shock that the response might not be friendly.
It’s also interesting to see the rhetoric used around this event. Instead of “activists,” let’s call them what they are: agitators. Calling ICE and MAGA anything other than hateful, violent fascists is a disservice to the situation. We’ve got to call a spade a spade, right? “Chase off” is the perfect way to describe what happened. ICE, in many ways, functions like a terrorist organization, filled with people who don’t reflect well on the country. They wanted to cause problems, and they got shut down.
And the theatrics of it all! Claims of being stabbed, even when wearing protective gear. I mean, Kevlar doesn’t magically stop a knife. There’s a predictable pattern to these events: show up, cause trouble, claim victimhood. It’s a calculated move. A headline with some positive news like this is a real win! Now is not the time to be soft. And honestly, Nazi lives don’t matter, and we should be very happy with this outcome.
The very idea of these groups demanding the deportation of American citizens while burning Qurans really highlights their hypocrisy. If that isn’t hate speech I don’t know what is. The fact is, they don’t have the backing they claim to, and this event proves it. The police staying out of it helped tremendously. It seems like the overall sentiment is to stand up to hate, and that’s something we can all get behind.
