The Metropolitan Police has announced two additional charges against Russell Brand, including one count of rape and one count of sexual assault, stemming from allegations made by two more women. These new charges come after Brand previously pleaded not guilty to five earlier charges of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault involving four other women. Brand, aged 50, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20, 2026, to address these latest allegations.

The response to this kind of news is probably going to be a heightened performance. We’re potentially looking at an even deeper dive into conservative circles, the embrace of performative Christianity cranked up to eleven. Is this a calculated move, a desperate attempt to garner support and deflect from the accusations? It definitely feels that way. The shift to right-wing grifting, with religious undertones, makes it feel like it was all a tactic to seek shelter.
And let’s not forget the details. The charges, these “new” charges, dating back to 2009, involving two additional women. This adds to the existing charges, spanning from 1999 to 2005. The fact that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has decided to move forward indicates there’s a belief that sufficient evidence exists. The victims’ support is the priority, and the legal process must be respected. We need to be careful to avoid anything that could impact a fair trial.
It’s hard to ignore the way he’s been embraced by certain groups. The fact he appeared at a Turning Point USA event is, to put it mildly, interesting. That kind of environment seems to have paved the way for, well, you know. Seeing someone like this move further right feels like a natural progression, a means to an end. It’s not a change of heart; it’s a strategic maneuver.
This whole situation, especially the sudden shift into religion, just feels incredibly calculated. It’s the classic playbook. When you see someone rapidly embracing faith, it often raises questions. Is it genuine, or is it a smokescreen? It’s hard to avoid the feeling that there’s something more going on.
The accusations, the past, the present… it all paints a grim picture. It’s tough to find a good angle on this because the situation is really quite terrible.
