Is Trump Giving Illegal Orders? Dems Just Blew the Question Wide Open. The question of whether Donald Trump has given illegal orders isn’t really a question anymore, and frankly, it hasn’t been for quite some time. The evidence has piled up, and the consensus seems clear: yes, he has. And the reaction from some quarters, particularly those aligned with Trump, has only served to solidify that conclusion.
It’s been stated that the summary execution of foreign nationals in international waters without due process is an illegal order. The legal system has been debating this for years, and it’s been addressed on many fronts. Remember the response from Republicans in Congress back in 2020? They essentially said it was fine, and they were okay with it. This is in the backdrop of discussions concerning emoluments, Hatch Act violations, the use of pardoning power, and the pursuit of self-enrichment through the office. Add to that allegations of rape and fraud, and the picture becomes even clearer.
The most significant issue, however, centers on the attempts to overturn an election. These actions, combined with others, all qualify as potential articles of impeachment. The core issue is that actions like these are seen as seditious injuries against humanity, and there is no moral defense for the administration.
One of the issues is not being equivocal when faced with existential threats. Trusting your instincts is crucial in situations where the very fabric of democracy is threatened. The administration relies on fear, and there is a need to act decisively.
It’s pretty clear that bombing boats off the coast of Venezuela, even if they’re suspected of drug smuggling, is not legal. Troop deployments to US cities and extrajudicial executions in international waters are all unquestionably illegal. The idea of repeatedly bombing foreign boats in foreign waters based on the suspicion of drug trafficking, which doesn’t warrant a death sentence, is highly illegal. Using the military to attack civilians is the very definition of an illegal order, regardless of any drug smuggling. It’s akin to hitting a car thief in another country with a missile, which is murder and a worse crime.
The “war on drugs” is ridiculous, especially considering that alcohol is freely available to adults. Donald Trump is disqualified from holding office under the 14th Amendment, meaning any orders he gives are unlawful. Murdering civilians at sea is a war crime and thus 100% illegal. Due process must be followed, even if someone is a drug smuggler.
Fascists often disregard the law, claiming it’s whatever they say it is. It’s imperative that those responsible are held accountable. The idea of using a drone to target someone on their way home from work, as if it were a lawful order, is an absurd notion.
The outrage itself is further proof of the illegal nature of the orders being given. It’s never really been a question. The real question is who will stop him if the courts and Congress fail to hold him accountable. The issue is that the president gave an order to blow up a boat in international waters, which is illegal. The fact that any order given by a president is inherently lawful is a disturbing assertion. This would be a blank check for a president to do whatever they wanted.
The US Army Field Manual 27-10 (Law of Land Warfare) states that members of the armed forces must refuse to obey orders that are clearly illegal. It’s a problem if it’s considered treason to follow the manual. The question now becomes, has Trump done anything legal? The ability to issue an administration-wide pardon so that none of his cabinet would face any charges is another cause for concern.
The key point here is that the indications of illegal orders are evident. A man unfit for office was elected by the unfit and will go down in history as one of the most puzzlingly stupid things the country has ever done.
