It’s easy to see how Trump got charmed. He’s always been drawn to charismatic people, and it seems like Mamdani knew exactly how to play the game. Give him some praise, and boom, instant admiration. The whole thing reminds me of how he acted around Obama – complete with ego pampering. It’s almost too easy to manipulate him, and the implications of this are, well, intriguing. Could you imagine a Trump endorsement of socialism? We’re living in a world of political theater, and it’s hard not to laugh watching it all unfold.
The speed at which Trump can flip is just astonishing. One minute he’s singing your praises, the next he’s tearing you down. The question is, how long until he’s back to attacking Mamdani? It’s the classic Trump routine. Remember his brief bromance with a certain someone? They were best friends for about a week, and then… well, the split happened. It wouldn’t be surprising if he has pictures to show how amicable they were. It’s hard to predict anything but this.

But as one should expect, this is followed by people expressing that his mindset is gone, that he’s mentally out of it.
Considering the concerns around Mamdani’s policies, it’s worth remembering that NYC’s income tax rate isn’t actually that high. So, even if he were to raise it, it likely wouldn’t be that burdensome on the affluent New Yorkers. Moreover, Mamdani seems like a reasonable and forthright individual, which, when compared to someone like former Mayor Adams, might have left a positive impression on Trump.
The reaction from various corners of the political spectrum is predictable. You’ve got the people waiting for the inevitable backlash. Then, there are those who see something sinister behind every positive headline. But in any case, most people seem to agree that it went spectacularly well for Mamdani. It’s easy to wonder if this was all it took – a little praise, a little charm.
In essence, this is all just Trump being Trump. He’s easily swayed by the last person he spoke to, especially if they know how to flatter him. He’s got no core beliefs in any given situation, as everyone agrees. It’s a bit disturbing to watch, but it’s also hilarious in a bizarre way.
