Schlossberg, an environmental journalist, has undergone multiple rounds of treatment, including chemotherapy, stem cell transplants, and clinical trials. Furthermore, the essay details her concerns regarding policies supported by her cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which she believes could negatively impact cancer patients. Finally, Schlossberg also expressed her emotional distress, including her fears about her children and the sadness of her shortened lifespan.

I watched as Bobby cut nearly a half billion dollars for research, and it’s a difficult thing to process. The granddaughter, facing her own battle with a terminal illness, rightfully saw this as a deeply troubling act. It’s hard to fathom why anyone would want to hinder progress in medical research. Medical advancements provide a competitive edge for the country and offer a lifeline to those suffering from illness. It’s a fundamental question: how can you hope to improve public health by slashing funds meant to foster advancements in that very field?
The accusations that Bobby holds eugenicist views are particularly disturbing. The idea that he might believe in a twisted version of Darwinism, where the removal of modern medicine and vaccines leads to a “survival of the fittest” scenario, is deeply unsettling. He is perceived as someone who wants to eliminate vaccines and medicine to “naturally” wipe out those he deems “inferior.” When seen through this lens, many of his actions begin to make a chilling sense. He enjoys bringing his dystopian vision into reality, which shows a complete disregard for the pain it causes others.
The political realities are also worth considering. While the Kennedys used to be seen as a strong political force, that may no longer be the case. Those around Trump used Bobby to garner votes, and even with the support, he could be removed from his post. It is difficult to see such actions and not feel sadness for those affected by cancer, a horrific thing to experience.
The core of the issue may come down to motive, as he may have a mental health issue. There’s a theory that his decisions stem from a place of deep-seated conspiracy theories and an inability to trust the medical and scientific community.
The potential damage stemming from Bobby’s actions is far-reaching. The cutting of funds for research, coupled with his alleged desire to dismantle health regulations, opens the door to predatory practices. He is thought to be supporting the growth of the alternative medicine industry. He wants to cast doubt on scientific consensus, and keep people looking at alternative treatments. This undermines the foundations of public health and leaves vulnerable individuals at risk.
The focus of this administration seems to be weakening America, and its citizens. That is an extremely concerning trend, and is something that needs to be brought to light.

And the consequences will continue to be felt. It is one of many detrimental things that this administration has caused. It is considered to be one of the most corrupt in US history.
