President Zelenskyy has declined Russian President Putin’s invitation to Moscow for talks, proposing instead that Putin travel to Kyiv. Zelenskyy stated that traveling to Moscow while Ukraine is under attack is impossible. He views Putin’s offer as an attempt to delay a genuine meeting. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also deemed the meeting in Moscow as unacceptable.

The question of where they *should* meet is key. Neutral ground is crucial for any potential peace talks. Places like The Hague, New Delhi, or somewhere in Europe are often suggested as viable alternatives. The important part is to ensure a secure and impartial setting.
If Trump were truly interested in mediating a settlement, maybe he could have attempted a visit to Ukraine or arranged a meeting on US soil. However, this invitation from Putin is a way to kick the can down the road a bit more. Trump would bluster and set a deadline but eventually chicken out when it came to actual sanctions.
Putin’s true intentions are not about peace talks, they are about Ukrainian surrender. Meeting in a Russian-controlled territory is just out of the question because the consequences would be dire for Zelenskyy. And, it’s important to remember that the stakes are incredibly high.
