Here we go again, another one of those meetings orchestrated in the Trump style, promising grand outcomes and delivering absolutely nothing. It’s a pattern, isn’t it? Remember the North Korea situation? All those grand pronouncements of denuclearization, the buddy-buddy relationship, and then… what happened? Absolutely nothing. No ceasefire. No sanctions that held water. No discernible progress. The whole thing feels designed for show, a theatrical performance of diplomacy with zero substance. They are likely going to pressure Ukraine to surrender, and when Ukraine inevitably resists, the blame will be conveniently shifted onto them. This is a failure on multiple levels, a display of incompetence on the international stage, and a complete lack of understanding of basic geopolitical realities.
The stark contrast between Trump’s words and actions is truly astonishing. The red tie, a constant presence, often seems to amplify his pronouncements, making his already questionable judgment even more apparent. The simple act of being in the same room as a war criminal, while expecting a ceasefire, is a bizarre and dangerous dance. It’s as if Trump doesn’t understand the power dynamics at play. It seems like every meeting like this is going to be a step backward, and a major win for Russia. How can a leader even attempt to negotiate a ceasefire when the actual country being impacted is not even present? It’s a bit like asking a referee to call a game where neither team is actually on the field.

The entire performance seems calculated to appease Putin, to appear subservient to him. In the end, Trump would simply be a puppet for Putin, to appease his demands. His base continues to support this man.
It should go without saying that, no one is surprised. There were no real consequences for all the disrespect. Is Trump is even trying to play a hand for the American people? The very fact of meeting with Putin and the lack of any tangible progress is a betrayal of American values. It’s a dangerous game, playing into the hands of a known adversary, and it is the definition of failure. It almost seems as though Trump had two things to deal with: the lifting of sanctions and the handing over of Ukraine. If that were the case, it’s hard to imagine any deal could have been worse.
The meeting itself was a display of weakness. Trump was there just to receive and obey. He seems completely compromised, and has been for a long time. The whole event was an open display of contempt. The people out protesting the meeting were the only ones who understood what was truly going on, and understood that it was a complete farce. I am very happy to see so many Ukrainians flags being flown, though.
It’s a testament to Trump’s ineptitude that even those who support him are disappointed. His actions are embarrassing. This is not “winning.” It’s simply a pathetic display of subservience. The fact that Trump is being diplomatic is nothing but a joke. It has seemed this entire time that the Trump presidency was only show, wasting millions of taxpayer dollars and leaving with no real result, aside from the red carpet and the meeting itself.
In conclusion, the Trump-Putin meeting was a disaster. There was no ceasefire, no progress, and a clear display of weakness. It was a waste of time, resources, and political capital. The entire situation is a joke. Trump failed yet again, and there are more questions to be answered.
