His responses to questions about deploying the National Guard were also rambling and incoherent. These instances raise concerns about his mental acuity, especially when considering the scrutiny previously applied to President Biden. Such gaffes from Biden would have likely prompted intense criticism and investigations, raising questions about whether the same standards will be applied to Trump.

Nobody knows what Trump is talking about anymore, and that should be a major concern. It feels like a blatant truth at this point, a reality that’s been staring us in the face for quite some time. But the thing that really stings, and that many are noticing, is that nobody seems to care, or at least, a significant portion of the population is turning a blind eye. This isn’t new; it’s been happening for years. The rambling, the incoherent statements, the bizarre tangents – they’ve become a hallmark of his public appearances. Yet, the reactions are often a shrug, a passing comment, or worse, a display of enthusiastic agreement.
The media’s role in this is a complex one. While some outlets are attempting to call out the clear decline in his ability to communicate effectively, others seem to be complicit in a kind of “sanewashing,” as if repeating the outlandish statements makes them any less ridiculous. The irony of some news organizations, who should be holding everyone accountable, asking if the media will apply the same scrutiny they did to Biden is not lost on anyone. Where are the challenges? The follow-up questions? The in-depth analyses of the word salads? They’re often missing, leaving the public to decipher the mess on their own. It makes it hard to know what the media are doing to hold him accountable, and what they aren’t.
The most worrying aspect, beyond the sheer incomprehensibility of his words, is the potential for manipulation. The concept of “bullshitting,” where truth isn’t a priority, is disturbingly apt. It’s easier to create a cloud of vague pronouncements than to disprove them. This style, coupled with the constant barrage of social media, allows for the spread of misinformation and biased opinions.
The focus on the fact that he is facing charges of serious offenses is also very important. And yet there is a huge group of supporters who ignore or even defend these actions, seemingly prioritizing his persona over any ethical considerations. They are not letting the fact that he is facing legal consequences get in the way of their support. This highlights a deep-seated disconnect between reality and perception.
His lack of understanding, or apparent disinterest in, crucial issues like environmental disasters, the economy, or international relations, is equally concerning. When his supporters are ignoring the truth, what can be done? When we are in a situation where those in positions of power and the media are turning on the American people? The consequences could be disastrous, particularly with the potential deployment of the National Guard. It’s a terrifying thought that someone with such a tenuous grasp on reality has access to the military and the nuclear arsenal. That realization ought to resonate far beyond the political divide.
It’s tempting to say this has always been his approach, but the stakes have changed. His mental decline seems to be accelerating, adding a layer of urgency to the situation. While many were concerned about Biden’s age, these same people often ignore Trump’s obvious decline. The people who are obligated to protect the American people have turned on us. What do we do now? The corporate news media is not making hay of these issues.
It is essential that, if America survives Trump, it must never allow itself to repeat this cycle.
