By Matt Underwood Pentagon chief endorses Christian nationalist push to give voting rights to households, not women? Well, that’s a sentence that just keeps unraveling, doesn’t it? It’s frankly unbelievable that someone in a position of such power would even entertain the idea of stripping away the voting rights of an entire gender, especially in a modern democracy. The core of the issue is so fundamentally wrong, that it’s hard to know where to begin. It sounds like a throwback to a different century, a time when women’s voices were deliberately silenced, and their contributions disregarded.
The idea of giving voting rights to households rather than individuals just opens up a massive can of worms, doesn’t it? It’s a logistical nightmare. How do you decide who gets to cast the vote in a household? Is it the man, the woman, both? What about LGBTQ+ couples, single-parent households, or any of the diverse family structures that exist today? The notion seems designed to deliberately exclude and disenfranchise a large segment of the population.
This entire concept is deeply concerning and strikes at the heart of democratic principles. It feels like an attempt to rewrite the very foundation of what this country stands for, eroding the hard-won rights of women and others. These proposed changes seem not only wrong, but also fundamentally un-American. The goal appears to be about controlling the narrative and ensuring the continued power of a specific group, regardless of the will of the people.
One cannot help but wonder, what’s the endgame here? Is this truly about political power? It’s difficult not to feel a creeping sense of alarm. The implications are far-reaching and potentially devastating for women and anyone else who doesn’t fit a very specific, narrow mold. The focus appears to be on taking away rights, rather than expanding them, and that’s a dangerous path to tread.
And then there’s the matter of the person supposedly behind this push. Someone in the military isn’t supposed to be actively engaged in political activism. Their loyalty should be to the Constitution, not a particular ideology. Such actions by a high-ranking official is a violation of their oath and a betrayal of the principles they swore to uphold. It’s vital that our elected officials are held to the highest ethical standards, because the integrity of our system relies on them.
It’s not difficult to imagine a future where this type of rhetoric becomes normalized, where women’s rights are further eroded, and where the voices of entire groups of people are silenced. The potential consequences are chilling, especially when you consider the history of oppression and discrimination that women and minorities have faced. It could fuel even greater levels of division and anger.
Women are already more likely to vote than men. They are homeowners. Women live longer. This proposal is a direct affront to all of these realities. Any attempt to disenfranchise women would undoubtedly trigger massive pushback. It’s simply not something that a significant portion of the population would stand for. What we’re talking about here is a fight for the very soul of the country.
The constant dehumanizing of people at every opportunity, is really the most troubling aspect. No rights for immigrants, no rights for people of color, no rights for anyone who doesn’t fit their narrow view. Words are just a means to get what they want and honesty and integrity mean nothing. This type of behavior is unacceptable.
We can’t afford to be complacent. The time for complacency is over. If the end game is about taking rights away, then the time for action is now. It’s important to stand up, speak out, and fight against any attempt to diminish the fundamental rights of any group. The country’s future depends on it. The stakes couldn’t be higher. We must be vigilant and defend the freedoms that we hold so dear.
