Since the Hamas-led attacks in October 2023, Israel has intermittently blocked aid, and permitted insufficient supplies, leading to thousands of deaths from malnutrition and related issues. Despite Israeli denials and accusations against aid organizations, the U.S. government needs to intervene by ordering Israel to open all crossings and end restrictive practices. Furthermore, the U.S. should cease supporting militarized aid schemes and instead instruct Israel to collaborate with the United Nations and impartial aid groups to allow for safe and effective delivery of essential supplies.

It’s not just a matter of indirect involvement; the United States is actively participating in a humanitarian catastrophe, a situation where the deliberate withholding of food and resources is pushing an entire population toward starvation.

The situation today is undeniably worse, with the Israeli government feeling emboldened in its actions, seemingly unafraid of international accountability. It’s easy to question if the world is ignoring what’s happening, or does it enable it?
The US’s financial and political support for Israel is undeniable. From funding to supplying military hardware, the United States provides the resources that sustain the blockade and the ongoing military operations. Some are pointing to specific politicians who are too willing to turn a blind eye to these actions, and this requires a renewed focus on accountability and primary elections. The political system seems to have become more complicit and less independent. There is little doubt of the level of influence that can be exerted on politicians.
It is a tragic situation, but the world is not without responsibility. Sanctions and diplomatic pressure have a role to play. And now, it is not just enough to say “Never again.” It is a call to never permit the conditions for genocide to arise. The concept of human rights must be upheld for everyone, not just a select few. This means holding all perpetrators accountable and demanding justice for the people of Gaza.
The criticism is that the world is failing. Many are left to wonder why international bodies have not enforced basic human rights protections. The fact that a proxy is used to do the dirty work of the US is not lost on many. The global community’s response to the situation is not enough. It is a stark reminder of the failures of leadership.
The claim that Egypt is responsible is not based on facts. Egypt, reliant on the US for political and economic support, is unable to defy the US and Israel. The problem is not a lack of aid, but Israel’s control over its entry and distribution. There are very few functional aid distribution centers in Gaza, and they are tightly controlled by Israeli forces and American mercenaries. These sites have become dangerous zones where aid is provided on Israel’s terms.
The situation in Gaza is a man-made catastrophe, an ongoing genocide. And the US is not just a bystander. The US is an active participant.
