Following a call with Putin that yielded no progress on a Ukraine peace deal, President Trump expressed frustration, using expletives to describe Putin’s actions and confirming the U.S. would send more weapons to Kyiv. Trump’s decision includes sending Patriot interceptors and pushing for increased arms production by defense contractors. The Kremlin responded, stating that sending arms only prolongs the conflict, while Ukrainian officials express concern given the contradictory announcements.

Trump accuses Putin of talking “bulls***” on Ukraine, a statement that, frankly, feels like a bizarre headline in this ongoing saga. It’s a world where the geopolitical chess match seems to be decided by the whims of two figures who aren’t directly affected by the conflict. You’ve got to wonder how much this is genuine concern and how much is pure theater. The immediate reaction is, well, it’s probably the latter, right?
This isn’t the first time he’s suddenly taken a harsh stance. He seems to do it, and then a day later, there’s a complete about-face. It’s become almost predictable. It’s hard not to see this as a carefully orchestrated performance, a tactic. He’s probably got some grand master plan that we just don’t understand. He says things like “We get a lot of bullshit thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth.” Then, you blink, and it’s back to rosy pronouncements.
Trump also seemed to be pushing for increased production of armaments, urging Pete Hegseth to get defense contractors on the case. He wants those weapons moving, which might seem like a strong position, but it’s also the kind of thing that could just as easily be a means to an end – financial gain. He’s also been unhappy with Putin for a call they had last week, saying it made “no progress on the Ukraine peace deal.” You have to wonder if he ever really cared or if this is just the usual game of looking tough.
The whole thing just has a faint smell of distraction. It’s like he’s trying to appear strong, but the actions don’t match the words. He’s been on the other side of this issue before. He even promised sanctions, and then…crickets. Nothing ever came of it. He can make these statements, but the follow-through is non-existent.
It seems clear that Trump might be using the situation to deflect from some other issue. It’s almost like he’s signaling to Putin in a way that we, the public, aren’t meant to see. Trump has a habit of playing up the tough talk but doing nothing to actually support it. In other words, he’s saying one thing and doing another. His words don’t line up with his actions.
He seems to use the harsh words as a way to convince people that he’s actually being tough on Putin, but the actual policies don’t reflect that. He is using this moment as a distraction from things such as the Epstein list. The list has mysteriously “vanished” right before he starts publicly attacking Putin. It’s an old trick, the classic switcheroo. Attack Putin to distract from the controversy. We’ve seen it before.
It’s a tough sell to believe anything he says. The words are cheap and the truth is hard to find when it’s coming from a man with such a history. The truth is, he could be using these tactics to try and get some sort of advantage in the situation. It’s hard not to feel like we’re being played.
There’s a sense that Putin simply ignores Trump’s theatrics. Trump is the last one to figure it out. Meanwhile, we’re stuck in this cycle of tough talk followed by…well, nothing. Demand action, not words. But instead, here we are.
The whole thing just feels like a performance, and the audience is getting tired. The way he flip-flops more than a fish out of water, is not a sign of strong leadership. If you don’t think there’s a level of coordination with Russia then maybe you are fooling yourself.
