Following the nomination of democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral race, warnings of an exodus of wealthy residents and businesses began to circulate, with figures like Bill Ackman threatening to fund an opponent. Despite these threats, studies have shown that high-earner outmigration from New York has not increased, and those who do leave often relocate to other high-tax states. However, the article acknowledges the potential for capital flight and disinvestment if progressive policies threaten the interests of the wealthy, highlighting the power dynamic where the interests of elites can undermine the democratic will of the people. Ultimately, it argues that the current system requires catering to the anxieties of the ultrarich, a situation that is not befitting a democracy.

A Society Governed by Whiny Rich People Throwing Tantrums: This is a truly captivating thought, and it seems we’re living it. The core idea is simple: a system where the incredibly wealthy, often immature and out-of-touch individuals, wield disproportionate power and react to challenges with petulant outbursts, shaping policy and public perception in ways that often benefit only themselves.
Economic crackheads, that’s one way to put it, stripping the economy for copper. It’s a sentiment that really hits home. Why should we care if the ultra-rich threaten to leave? It’s almost a relief when they do, a chance for someone else to step in. These people are often incredibly immature, captured by the media and successfully brainwashing many into believing that wealth equates to superior intelligence and moral standing. But the reality is often quite the opposite.
These are people with few good ideas. They’re addicted to hoarding wealth, and it distorts their grip on reality. The ability to hire PR and marketing teams to defend their tantrums is a privilege most people can’t even fathom. Billionaires really shouldn’t exist. Poor people with nothing to lose, sometimes throw better tantrums. Take Bill Ackman, for instance, risking everything when faced with a situation that challenged his world view. It’s a textbook example of how the system works.
People like Ackman, it’s almost like they live in a pretend world. Believing that merit is the only criteria, ignoring factors like background that the more privileged are looking to exploit. It’s not about the best students. This is the reality. We’re a joke in the grand scheme of things.
This is a phaulopadiocracy, a country run by evil toddlers. The idea that the wealthy will save us is ridiculous. Go John Galt! already, if you’re not going to pay taxes, why are you even needed? The truth is, we let them get too rich, and this is what we get. It’s like Bobby Newport in Parks and Rec, when the wealthy try to hold everyone else hostage. We need more people like Leslie Knope right now to call them out.
The rich are simply smart, and we should listen to them, Karen? Most of their wealth comes from inheritance or taking advantage of the system. If you build yourself up from the bootstraps, then talk to me. This pushback is just bravado.
NYC has the biggest talent pool of high-level professionals, if the rich leave, their competition will take over, grab the best people, and actually engage in competitive capitalism. Imagine having a tenant who refuses to pay rent and threatens to move out if you don’t let them. That’s an amazing situation.
Taxing the rich could cycle out these leeches and bring in people with sustainable business models. Businesses that are afraid of communism are often the ones with taxpayer-subsidized profits.
Everyone but them pays expenses for infrastructure that they profit the most from. Your paychecks are being siphoned to billionaires. They then use that money for their own agendas. You are paying for their preversion. You inevitably have to seize their capital. The problem isn’t them: they’re stupid and incompetent, but they’re incredibly dangerous as owners of vast sums of wealth. You have to find ways to freeze their assets because they are protected by institutions that abhor social advancement. Banks, stock markets, real estate, and patronage networks.
Doing some social justice requires you to undo the entire system. If our elites were educated, we might be able to work with them, appealing to their bottom lines. You can’t negotiate with people like Musk or Ackman because their egos won’t allow compromise. Whiny white rich people, they are the big babies. This is America. Rich people will control every aspect of life, and the agency you once had to change that will be gone.
As long as money is the main focus, there will always be inequality. Not all rich people are the same, but most remain passive. Money is the carrot, and people have to work to survive. It’s the only way they can keep control. Holler for a dollar.
The hypocrisy is astounding. They’re “vilified” for making money? Rick Scott complaining about being vilified and getting rich, all while his company was involved in massive fraud. The elite use rhetoric to buy elections.
Jacobin will throw any Democrat, even ones who just died, who don’t fit their definition of progressivism under the bus. They treated all three of his opponents like horrible people who should have stepped aside in the day before Election Day and ceded the nomination to Sanders at the eleventh hour. They forgot the word white in that statement. If they had to leave, someone else would fill the void. Capital flight is a myth. They can’t just leave.
The idea that the rich are essential for jobs is also flawed. The wealthy can’t just up and leave, they can’t just move a football stadium. And even without the ultra-rich, the government wouldn’t collapse.
These people aren’t smart, just sociopathic, morally bankrupt, and kinda dumb. Nearly everyone continues developing physically, but many people become mentally, emotionally, and socially trapped at a specific age and never mature past it. The truth is, society is lacking in mature adults and filled with old babies.
