During a press conference at the NATO summit, President Trump suggested the possibility of Putin invading other countries, while also stating he believes the Russian leader is “misguided”. Trump indicated he’s in regular contact with Putin, who offered to help with the Middle East conflict. Although Trump previously stated he would negotiate an end to the Ukrainian invasion within 24 hours, he now deems such negotiations “more difficult”. Finally, Trump confirmed a “good” meeting with Zelenskyy and would “see” if the US would supply Ukraine with Patriot systems.

It’s possible Putin will invade more than Ukraine, says Donald Trump – well, isn’t that a cheerful thought?
It seems the former US president is now musing out loud about the potential for further Russian aggression. According to the buzz, Trump’s taken to the idea that Putin’s ambitions might not be limited to just one country. This, of course, comes after he’s been saying that negotiations are proving tougher than everyone initially imagined, and that Putin is, in his words, “more difficult” than expected. It’s the kind of statement that gets thrown around without any real commitment, the usual “maybe, I don’t know, many people are saying it” routine. You know, the kind of thing you’d expect from someone who’s trying to avoid taking a firm position or, perhaps, isn’t entirely sure how to approach the subject without offending anyone. Or in this case, potentially, his own “boss.”
Now, here’s where things get interesting, or perhaps just frustrating. Apparently, Trump has been praising Putin in the past. If he really believed that Putin’s plans extended beyond Ukraine, wouldn’t he have stopped the praise a long time ago? This seems like a bit of a contradiction, doesn’t it? And wasn’t he the one who seemed to think Ukraine was responsible for the war in the first place? You know, “Ukraine started the war”? It’s almost as if he’s just catching up with the rest of the world, who has been aware of Putin’s desires to rebuild the Russian empire since the invasion of Ukraine. NATO has been saying the same thing since the beginning.
Perhaps the man himself wants to be the great peacemaker, the guy who swoops in and sorts everything out, the one who gets the Nobel Prize. The whole thing might have soured when Putin didn’t play along with this plan. It’s like a backup plan getting ruined, which is why he was supposedly upset when Iran and Israel weren’t observing their ceasefire. Is he hoping for it? It feels like he is. Trump’s actions are so delayed and slow. It’s as if the current political climate requires rapid-fire decisions, but he’s lagging behind. It’s a tough pill to swallow when you consider that so many of his supporters seem to be cheering Putin on.
This is the guy who said he’d end the war in a single day. That’s a laugh. And then, there’s the whole thing about supplying Patriot air defense systems. He said he’d “see” if the US could supply them. The implications are there, of course. And now we have NATO allies all agreeing to increase defense spending. It’s framed as a “big win” for the West, but really, it seems more like a “big win” for arms manufacturers, the usual suspects who benefit from increased military spending.
The obvious is that Russia’s plans will not get the attention it warrants. If he’s just figuring that out now, well, that’s pretty sad. He seems to be so easily swayed by the last person he spoke to. The world already knows. Why doesn’t he invest in Ukraine and help them fight Russia? His responses make you feel like he will offer zero help. It’s all about him, and the perceived slight from Putin. Remember, he was going to solve this in 24 hours, but his solution, seemingly, was to push Ukraine into a corner.
The guy is just too much. Sometimes he is right, and this might be one of those times. Well, okay. The world knows. And the problem is, what can Trump even do? He has no army to send over. The good news is that it’ll take several years for Russia to rebuild its forces. And by the time they’re ready, Trump will be out of office. He also says he’s going to help them all the way. Trump probably just says things. What can be expected from someone who considered Putin a person who’s misguided? It’s like the pot calling the kettle black. He was mislead by Putin. He was the fool, and he still doesn’t get it.
