Now, as some have questioned, this is an upset by CNN or Fox’s logic but it sure felt like this campaign was actually reaching out to real humans and getting support of the people and was gonna win. The focus is now on if the candidate can fulfill the promises he has made. The time to celebrate is now, but there is a long road ahead.
The endorsements of figures like Bill Clinton and Jim Clyburn didn’t sway the voters, and that’s significant. This is a clear rejection of the kind of establishment politics that have been the norm for far too long. This is a time to embrace the term “socialist.” The more the rich get scared, the more the support will increase. It’s truly a meaningful victory for anyone hoping for progressive policies and a more just society.
The fact that a Farmer-Labor Party candidate is now the chair of the DNC, against the wishes of Pelosi and Schumer, shows the changing tides within the party. The “abundance agenda” is fresh on everyone’s minds. This is a sign of change. I have not felt this much hope in such a long time. A resounding win invigorates me. So, yes, fuck yes! The youth vote is going to count.
So, with Cuomo out and Mamdani in, it’s a new day in New York City politics. This feels like the first step… and a good one.
