As a parent, I was saddened and deeply affected by the news of the 5-year-old Utah boy who tragically died from an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound. The fact that this young child found a 9mm handgun in the back room of his house and was able to fire a single shot is absolutely heartbreaking. The boy’s parents and siblings were in the home but not with him in the room at the time of the shooting, which raises questions about how accessible and unsecured firearms can lead to such devastating consequences.
