Democratic Party Elite Blamed for Catastrophic Loss: Voters Abandon Ship, Leaving Democrats in Crisis

The author argues that the Democratic Party’s failure to win the 2020 presidential election is a result of their continued neglect of the working class and their focus on winning over moderate Republicans. This strategy, mirroring Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, prioritizes appealing to a smaller group of voters while ignoring the larger, more economically-disenfranchised segment of the electorate. This approach ultimately fuels the rise of anti-system politics, as exemplified by Donald Trump’s success. The author concludes that the Democratic Party must undergo a radical transformation, embracing a more populist economic agenda and prioritizing the needs of working-class voters if they hope to effectively challenge the right-wing movement and restore a healthy democratic system.

This time we have to hold the Democratic Party elite responsible for this catastrophe. They need to figure out why 15 million voters who came out in 2020 stayed home. Until they do, they’re toast.

The Democrats keep trying to approach issues as a policy and ideology debate, but that’s not how many voters see things. They’re not swayed by policy papers. They’re voting for a personality. They’re voting based on misinformation and things that aren’t even real, not on facts or reality. It’s not just misinformation, either, but a huge economic downturn with no help in sight and the plain old American conservative values and racism that make a whole half of the country extremely susceptible to manipulation.

The Democratic Party leadership is too weak to compete against a thug like Trump. They need a complete overhaul, because they can’t even win against a convicted felon. They’re ignoring what really matters to voters, focusing on the wrong issues. They need to understand that “kitchen table issues” like the price of gas, physical safety from crime, etc., trump everything else. And they need to understand that they can’t even get into the ring if they try to fight the rich.

Biden made a huge mistake by running again. He should have stepped aside so a proper primary could be run and Democrats could get a more legitimate candidate. Harris wasn’t legitimate in the eyes of the voters, and she didn’t have the chance to earn their trust that a candidate gets by winning a primary. We need to trust our voters and have a robust primary. We need to do away with superdelegates.

The Democrats are in a bind. They’ve been stuck with “Blue no matter who” candidates for years, and the next generation of voters will only know that. They could have avoided this by letting Sanders win in 2016, but they chose to double down on the status quo. Now the Democrats have the dubious honor of Cheney’s support.

There are a lot of reasons why the Democrats lost, but one of the biggest is that they are completely detached from their constituents. They keep blaming apathy and voter suppression, but people weren’t inspired to vote, so they didn’t. They need to reflect on their messaging and stop blaming the voters.

They also need to stop trying to appeal to Republicans. Cheney and talking about the border wasn’t going to win them any votes. They need to lean on progressive wins and focus on issues that matter to people, like free lunch and college. They need to bring people up, instead of hanging out with failed Republicans.

It’s not just about messaging, though. They need to make sure they have a strong candidate. Harris wasn’t the right choice. She wasn’t popular before she was nominated, and nothing magically made her a better candidate. The DNC needs to actually listen to the people and allow them to vote for the candidate they want.

The Democrats need to realize that the game has changed. They can’t just run on policy and good ideas. They need to use propaganda, lies, and disinformation, just like the Republicans. The problem wasn’t Trump, it was the voters. The Republicans figured out that you could convince idiots of anything, and Trump mastered it. The Democrats need to treat their voters like the idiots we are and stop trying to treat us like adults who understand multiple word sentences.

We can’t blame voter suppression, disinformation, or even Russian meddling this time. This time it was the American people who fucked us. If you didn’t vote, you are a bad American.

There are plenty of reasons why the Democrats lost, but ultimately it comes down to this: the Democrats need to understand that the American people are angry and they need to find a way to connect with them on a personal level. They need to stop being detached from their constituents and start listening to what they have to say. They need to stop blaming the voters and start looking at themselves.

This is not a time for finger-pointing. This is a time for the Democratic Party to take a hard look at themselves and figure out how to win back the trust of the American people. If they don’t, they’re going to be in for a very long, very painful ride.
