Can we take a minute and realize how insane it is that private companies can bribe a president with $90,000,000 to get their agenda’s done? Can we just take a minute and recognize that we are in the middle of some historic shit? Maybe he wasn’t supposed to tell the press that he had $200 million in the bank from donors 😂 Whether or not he should step aside, it’s absurd that a relatively small number of wealthy donors can have the influence to replace the party’s nominee, I hope the DNC tells them as much.
You live by the rich donor, you die by the rich donor. Trumps best weapon is watching the blue party implode and saying nothing. Can we recognize that the oligarchy is holding the Democratic Party hostage if they don’t get their way? Fuck y’all. Rich people throwing their goddamn money around to get what they want. I don’t know whether Biden stepping aside is the right thing (and neither does anybody else), but this is incredibly offensive for the party of equality. Anyone else not love the idea that a few people can pressure the part to change the nominee? Even if you agree Biden should go, this is a BAD look. Oh fuck off already. I hate how billionaires think they can just openly buy the presidency (and congress, and the senate, and the high school student council no doubt) edit: yes, I worded that poorly. By *”think they can”* I meant it like *”think it’s alright that they do it.”* They’ve definitely always done it, I just mean I hate how blunt and unsophisticated they are about it now. Like, they’re just whomping people in the face with sacks of money at this point. Not even bothering with the manila envelope in the folded-up newspaper any more. This doesn’t feel Democracy. What a sad state of affairs.
On one hand, I wish he would voluntarily step aside and unite the party around a new candidate that is much younger and won’t have these brutal public gaffes. On the other, how messed up that the corporate billionaire class is just openly letting everyone know that they get to pick who is going to be president. We really need money taken out of politics and have publicly funded campaigns and elections that last weeks, not years. If only Bernie got that nomination in 2016 or 2020.. what a different country we could’ve had.
Can someone explain to me if actually having Biden drop out this late in the game would even actually be helpful or a simple process? With the Republicans being… how they are would they just try to block any new nominees from being on the ballots? And would changing the nominee further divide the party and therefore lower our chances in the actual election? He’s not literally, actively, promoting fascism and saying he wants to destroy democracy like the other candidate and that’s all that matters. This is a fight, once again, for the Supreme Court. Don’t mess this up again like you did in 2016. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Just exactly what people want to hear. A handful of mega-donors are trying to pick their own candidate. Why are Democrats cheering this? It’s down to blackmail now? Who could have predicted what a complete mess the Democratic party is right now. OK, what the heck. To my understanding the ultra-rich and mega-donors often give to both parties. This, to me, just seems again like those rich folks trying to put a thumb on the scale to get get what they want. Sure, I can see the concern regarding Biden, but resorting to this? The rich are the only ones who have insight and perspective on these matters that count? Bullcrap.
So $90 million is the ransom for Democracy? My vote is free. You know what pisses me off the most about this whole debacle? Biden was always going to be 81 at the end of his first term, as long as he remained alive throughout the whole of it. Always. That’s been a fact for the past four years. Has he always been a perfect linguist? Heck no. All these assholes calling for him to step down have been working with him for as long as they have and NOW is when they think it’s best to pressure him out of a campaign? Where the ever-loving heck were these impassioned calls from within the party for someone else to step up as the candidate LAST YEAR? BEFORE he got all the delegates he did, BEFORE we were 4 and a half months away from the freaking election, when it would be next to impossible for an alternative to fundraise, campaign, and have ANY hope of winning over enough people to justify stepping in the race when it’s 3/4 of the way finished?
At this point, self-sabotage—there is *no time* to have a different Democratic nominee. And this isn’t an election to lose because of self-sabotage, we lose the entirety of what’s left of our democratic republic if we lose this next election. For decades, if not forever. What the heck, dude! Would be nice to read the article until then I’ll settle for the actual sources. You mean the same donors who give money to BOTH candidates? F- em. Sounds like a bunch of billionaires who don’t want to pay their fair share of taxes. Don’t negotiate with terrorists. They are threatening to blow the whole campaign up. Screw the elites and the donors. We can do this grassroots and guerrilla-style! Maybe instead of telling him to step aside, someone should actually step up. No one has been suggesting a replacement, just that Biden step aside. Meanwhile, those same donators are probably still giving to Republicans. I refuse to have a conversation about Biden’s Age until Republicans start talking about the Pedophile they have running. Why does he need that $90 million? To run commercials? Seems like a pot of money that could be used elsewhere. That’s how JB should be spinning this. Nobody in the history of the world has inspired a $90 million bonus for voluntarily leaving. So Heritage can have the bought and paid for SCOTUS hand the election to Trump? We need to hold onto the ticket and let the voters decide. The right and the stupid are scared of losing and the change that will follow, which is why all this crap is popping up. Hold strong and don’t give the fascists an inch or an opportunity. No wonder the progressives and minority caucuses are lining up with him. This is seriously looking like a rich donor-led replacement campaign. Meanwhile, Trump is literally threatening violence, incoherent most of the time, can’t speak rationally or understandably about most Executive-level topics, will usher in a US Nazi era . . . and he’s the unquestionable Republican candidate. But Biden’s old, so he has to go. Doesn’t matter that he’s been a good President and remains so. Money is at the root of this. Major donors often fund both parties in the US and apparently want an authoritarian fascist country to emerge from ashes of this election’s result, so making the Democratic candidate an uncertain entity in the event is a full-on PR push through mass and social media. Democratic donors: “Don’t blame me for Project 2025, I was ready to throw my money at Kodos!”
Is $90 million all it takes to buy the candidacy? Thought it would be way higher. If you didn’t want him as president, then you shouldn’t have nominated him in 2020. It is too late. This is our candidate, and every time someone like this calls for him to step down, all it does is help Trump. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. If we eat just one of them, the rest will fall in line. I REALLY don’t understand what these people want… WHO is going to be the candidate then?
