In a society where becoming a teacher, lawyer, police officer, or even holding a political or governmental position is nearly impossible for a Jewish individual, the systemic barriers to success are overwhelming. The struggles of building new synagogues and battling odds stacked against us in the courtrooms further emphasize the challenges we face on a daily basis. The deep-rooted prejudices and biases against Jews in Iran have undeniably led to a significant decline in our population, reflecting a troubling trend of ethnic cleansing that cannot be ignored.
The recent news of a fellow Iranian Jew being sentenced to death following a fatal altercation with a local non-Jewish Iranian is a stark reminder of the harsh realities we face. Despite the circumstances of the incident, the impending execution serves as a chilling example of the grave injustices that plague our community. The very thought of being subjected to such a fate for defending oneself in a moment of desperation is a terrifying prospect that no individual should have to endure.
As my fellow Jewish brethren continue to face persecution and discrimination in Iran, the international community’s response remains muted, if not completely absent.
