In a shocking display of disregard for international alliances and diplomacy, Trump stated that he would not protect NATO countries that fail to meet their financial obligations, and worse, he would “encourage” Russia to attack them.
Can you imagine any other candidate saying something like this and remaining the front runner? The fact that Trump can express such dangerous and irresponsible views without facing significant consequences is truly baffling. It is clear that his supporters are willing to overlook or excuse any behavior, no matter how detrimental it may be to our national security and global stability.
The irony of Trump preaching about the importance of paying bills is not lost on me. This is the same man who has a history of not paying his own debts and has had numerous financial scandals throughout his career. How can he expect others to fulfill their financial obligations when he cannot do so himself? It is truly hypocritical.
It is astonishing how desensitized we have become to Trump’s outrageous behavior. If we had been told 20 years ago that a Republican candidate would openly talk about encouraging Russia to attack our allies, we would have dismissed it as an impossibility. And yet, here we are, witnessing the normalization of dangerous rhetoric and the erosion of our democratic values.
