By John Q. Hosedrinker Gov. Newsom recently called the Republicans ‘pathetic’ for going after Taylor Swift, and I have to say, I couldn’t agree more. It’s truly astonishing to see the lengths that some in the GOP will go to attack anyone who doesn’t align with their narrow ideologies. Last night, red America decided to root against California simply because they didn’t like that Taylor Swift, a white billionaire ex-country music singer, was dating a straight white football player from a red state team. It’s absurd.
The Republican base seems to get angry at anything that Fox News tells them, regardless of how little sense it may make. They are so desperate to play the victim that they believe in the most outlandish conspiracy theories. In this case, they actually think that the NFL orchestrated a fake relationship between Taylor Swift and her boyfriend just to stick it to Trump and get people to vote for Biden. It’s mind-boggling to think that they actually believe this.
But let’s take a step back and ask ourselves, are the Republicans pathetic for going after Taylor Swift? Or are they going after Taylor Swift because they’re pathetic? I believe it’s the latter. The GOP has shown time and time again that they are willing to attack anyone who doesn’t fit into their narrow vision of the world. They cannot stand it when someone like Taylor Swift, a successful, independent woman, expresses her own opinions and urges her fans to vote. They are threatened by her influence and are desperate to undermine her.
In reality, the Republicans are pathetic for so many reasons. They hate it when someone tells it like it is, like Taylor Swift does. They despise the fact that she supports LGBTQ+ rights and encourages people to get vaccinated. They tried to villainize her after the Super Bowl win, but all they did was give her more publicity. They fail to realize that Taylor Swift is one of the most recognizable women on the planet, and she doesn’t need the NFL or anyone else to have a platform.
Despite the GOP’s attempts to silence her, Taylor Swift’s integrity remains untarnished. In fact, all the hate that’s being thrown her way is only motivating more Swifties to go out and vote for Biden, just to spite her haters. So, in a way, the Republicans are inadvertently increasing voter turnout for the Democrats.
It’s truly laughable to see the Republicans so obsessed with Taylor Swift and her presence in a sport that they boycotted because the players dared to raise awareness about racism and police brutality. They claim to want a normal day where Americans can come together to watch a game, but their own actions prove otherwise. They are anti-democracy and scared of the power of the people.
Overall, it’s clear that the Republicans’ obsession with Taylor Swift is just another symptom of their pathetic behavior. They are willing to attack anyone who doesn’t fit into their narrow view of the world, and it’s time for us to reject their divisive tactics. Let’s focus on building a more inclusive and compassionate society, where everyone has a voice and their opinions are respected.
