Christian Super Bowl Commercial Outrages Conservatives

As I sit here reflecting on the recent Christian Super Bowl commercial that seems to have caused outrage among conservatives, I can’t help but be entertained by the sheer absurdity of it all. The ad, created by the “He Gets Us” campaign, was meant to spread a message of love and acceptance. However, it seems that conservatives have taken offense to this idea, causing them to lash out with hateful and bigoted comments.

It’s quite ironic, really. The very people who claim to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ are the ones who seem to be the most hateful and intolerant. Jesus, as I remember from my Catholic upbringing, was kind to outsiders and preached love and acceptance. Yet, these so-called Christians are quick to spread hate and animosity towards anyone who doesn’t attend the “right” church or fit into their narrow-minded worldview.

But let’s not be too surprised. After all, these are the same individuals who have aligned themselves with political hate groups and donated millions to conservative Christian legal organizations seeking to limit the rights of women and LGBTQ+ individuals. It’s no wonder that the general population is turning away from such segments of Christianity.

What’s truly baffling to me is the hypocrisy of it all. These conservatives claim to follow the teachings of Jesus, but they turn a blind eye to the moral, ethical, and even legal failings of their beloved leader, Donald Trump. They cherry-pick the parts of the Bible that suit their agenda, conveniently ignoring the messages of love, compassion, and forgiveness that Jesus actually preached.

It’s clear that these conservatives have invented a caricature of Jesus that aligns with their own biases and prejudices. They seem to have forgotten that Jesus was indeed a “friend of sinners.” He associated with tax collectors and other “undesirable” individuals not because he condoned their actions, but because he wanted to inspire them to change.

The outrage over the commercial that depicts Jesus washing the feet of others is particularly perplexing. This story, which I remember vividly from my Christian camp days, is meant to symbolize humility and love. It’s about recognizing that we are all equal and that no one is better than anyone else. To be outraged by such a positive message is truly mind-boggling.

But perhaps we shouldn’t waste too much time trying to understand the reasoning behind conservative outrage. After all, these individuals have shown time and time again that they are easily triggered and offended by anything that challenges their narrow worldview. They are, in essence, the true snowflakes of our society.

As someone who was brought up in a Christian household but no longer practices, I can’t help but wonder if these conservatives have ever actually sat down and read the Bible for themselves. It seems that they are more interested in preaching their own limited interpretations of scripture rather than truly understanding the teachings of Jesus.

In the end, the Christian Super Bowl commercial and the controversy it has sparked only serve to highlight the deep divisions within Christianity itself. The fact that an organization would spend millions to spread a message of love and acceptance, only to be met with backlash from those who claim to share their beliefs, is a sad testament to the state of religion today.

Perhaps it’s time for Christians to truly reflect on their faith and what it means to follow the teachings of Jesus. Instead of focusing on hate and division, let us strive for love, compassion, and acceptance. After all, isn’t that what Jesus would have wanted?
