AOC defends Biden as ‘one of the most successful presidents in modern history’
As I sit here reflecting on the state of our country and the current administration, I find myself agreeing with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s recent statement defending President Biden as “one of the most successful presidents in modern history.” Now, let me be clear, as a progressive, there are certainly areas where I wish Biden would do more. But when I take a step back and consider the obstacles he’s faced and the accomplishments he’s achieved, it’s hard not to agree with AOC’s assessment.
First and foremost, the obstructionist nature of the Republican Party cannot be ignored. Biden has had to navigate a political landscape where the opposing party seems more interested in opposing him than working towards positive change for the American people. It’s disheartening to see the constant roadblocks and attempts to stifle any progress he tries to make. Despite this, Biden has managed to make some significant strides forward.
One of the most compelling arguments put forth by AOC is the fact that Biden inherited a “dysfunctional shit-burger” from his predecessor, the self-proclaimed businessman, Donald Trump. And yet, despite the mess he was left with, Biden has managed to turn things around. The economy is on an upswing, with record highs in the DJ30, S&P500, and Nasdaq, all under the Biden administration. These are clear indications of his successful economic policies and management.
In terms of legislation, Biden has a long list of achievements. The Chips and Science Act, The American Rescue Plan, The Bipartisan Infrastructure law, the PACT act, the safer communities act, the respect for marriage act, and many more. These are not just empty words on paper; they are tangible steps towards making the lives of Americans better and securing a brighter future for our country.
Personally, I was skeptical of Biden when he first took office. I didn’t know what to expect, and my expectations were relatively low. However, I can now say that I am impressed. Biden has proven himself to be a capable leader, someone who can “captain a burning ship with a calm disposition,” as one commentator aptly put it.
AOC’s endorsement of Biden and her defense of his presidency are significant. She represents a faction of the Democratic Party that has been critical of Biden and his policies. Her acknowledgment of his accomplishments is a testament to the progress he has made and the impact his leadership has had.
Now, I understand that there are those who may still hold reservations about Biden. Some may wish he were younger or more left-leaning. But we must remember that politics is about compromise and progress. We cannot expect perfection; instead, we must judge leaders based on the effectiveness of their administration. And in that regard, Biden has been remarkable.
He has proven that he can shepherd progressive legislation into existence, even with a conservative Congress. The fact that AOC, a progressive leader herself, is urging progressives to support Biden speaks volumes. It signifies that, despite our differences, we must come together and support the leader who has shown the most promise in enacting change.
In conclusion, I am in agreement with AOC’s defense of Biden as “one of the most successful presidents in modern history.” He has faced numerous obstacles, from an obstructionist party to inherited problems from the previous administration. Yet, he has made significant strides forward, both economically and legislatively. Let us not overlook the progress he has made and the potential for even greater achievements in the future.
