As a union member myself, I couldn’t be prouder of this decision.
The UAW’s endorsement of Biden comes as no surprise, considering the clear contrast between his pro-labor stance and Donald Trump’s anti-union rhetoric. The UAW understands that every fiber of our union should be focused on fighting back against the billionaire class and an economy that benefits the wealthy at the expense of hardworking individuals like us.
Contrary to the misconceptions that some may have, Biden has consistently shown his commitment to the labor movement. When faced with the rail strike, Biden made a necessary decision to avert an economic disaster and then successfully negotiated a deal for paid sick days for the workers involved. Unfortunately, this positive action didn’t garner as much media attention as the initial criticism did.
In fact, Biden’s support for workers’ rights goes beyond mere lip service. He has become the only sitting President in history to join a union picket-line. Additionally, his nominations to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) have resulted in important victories for workers’ rights. It is undeniable that unions are experiencing a resurgence under Biden’s administration.
This endorsement will undoubtedly help Biden in Michigan, a crucial rust belt state where many union members reside. As a union man myself, I can confidently say that any union or union worker who supports or votes for Trump is completely misguided. Trump’s track record when it comes to labor unions has been abysmal, and his administration has not been an ally to the working class.
One of the most significant factors that led to the decline of unions in America was the lack of support from previous administrations. The fact that Biden is an extremely pro-union and pro-labor president should not be taken lightly. It is a no-brainer for any union or labor group to endorse him.
I recently had a conversation at a local country bar with individuals from a very red state. Even they acknowledged that Biden’s policies have led to an economy that is recovering, a lack of riots, and a restored sense of pride on the world stage. This sentiment was echoed by others, and it became clear that even individuals who may not have initially supported Biden are now considering casting their votes in his favor.
It is crucial that we recognize the impact Biden has had during his time in office. The decline in the standard of living for most Americans coincided with the decline of unions in America.
