Greg Abbott recently released a statement outlining states’ rights to constitutional self-defense when dealing with a “lawless president.” As a Texan and a loyal American, this statement has left me both deeply concerned and frustrated. It seems that Abbott is using this issue as a political ploy, rather than genuinely addressing the challenges at hand.
First and foremost, it is important to acknowledge that immigration is a complex issue that affects numerous states, not just Texas. So, why is Abbott the only governor making such a fuss? Migrants cross into New Mexico, Arizona, and California as well, yet they are not engaging in the same level of theatrics. This glaring inconsistency suggests that there may be other motivations behind Abbott’s actions.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that President Biden has actually deported more illegal immigrants than his predecessor, Donald Trump. This fact challenges the narrative that Abbott is trying to propagate regarding a “lawless president.” It is clear that Biden is upholding the law and addressing the issue of immigration.
Abbott’s assertion of states’ rights to constitutional self-defense raises several concerns. While states do have the right to defend themselves, it must be done within the boundaries of the law. It is important to remember that the constitution should not be selectively invoked. The same politicians who claim to uphold the constitution seem to conveniently forget about it when it no longer aligns with their agenda. This selective approach is not only hypocritical but also dangerous.
Moving forward, it is crucial that we hold our leaders accountable. Abbott’s actions should not go unchecked, as they border on sedition and violation of the constitution. This kind of behavior undermines our democracy and erodes the trust that citizens have in their elected officials.
