‘Oath-breaking insurrectionist’ Trump is ineligible for office, Colorado voters tell the Supreme Court

It’s a headline that many of us thought we would never see, but it seems that there may finally be some justice on the horizon. Colorado voters have taken a stand and told the Supreme Court that former President Donald Trump is ineligible for office due to his involvement in the insurrection that took place on January 6, 2021.

When I first heard the news, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief. Finally, someone is holding Trump accountable for his actions. The events of January 6 were a dark day in American history, and it is clear that Trump played a significant role in inciting the violence that unfolded at the Capitol.

There is overwhelming evidence that supports the claim that Trump actively fomented insurrection. It’s not just empty accusations; it’s a fact. He called for his supporters to be present at the Capitol, knowing full well that some of them were armed. He even told them to “peacefully” and “fight like hell,” in separate sentences, which only served to fuel their aggression.

And once the mob breached the Capitol, Trump did nothing. Instead of immediately addressing the nation and condemning the violence, he sat back and watched it unfold, seemingly amused by the chaos. It’s clear that he had no intention of stopping it or calling for the National Guard to defend the Capitol.

What’s even more shocking is that this was not a spur-of-the-moment decision by Trump. Testimony and evidence have revealed that there was a detailed plan in place to subvert the results of the election. They intended to invalidate swing states, had false electors ready, and needed the mob to delay the certification of the electoral votes.

The fact that Trump willingly declined to act on an open insurrection speaks volumes. Regardless of his role in instigating the events, his lack of action was a clear participation in the insurrection. You cannot sit idly by while your supporters wreak havoc in the name of your cause and claim innocence.

Now the Supreme Court is reviewing whether the 14th Amendment applies to Trump’s actions. While some argue that the language in the amendment may not specifically define the office of the president as an “office,” countless legal scholars have debunked this notion. It’s clear that Trump’s attempt to escape accountability is nothing more than a desperate move to hold onto power.

It’s also disheartening to see that some Republicans are still propping up Trump and making excuses for his behavior. The GOP needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror and ask themselves if they really want to align themselves with an oath-breaking insurrectionist.

But amidst all the hope and anticipation, there is still a lingering question. Why are we even having this conversation? The evidence against Trump is overwhelming, and yet courts continue to entertain his eligibility for office. It’s baffling.

Trump’s defense team is making ludicrous arguments, claiming that enforcing punishment for their lawbreaking will only lead to more lawbreaking. It’s a circular and nonsensical argument that should not hold any weight in a court of law. Trump and his enablers need to be held accountable for their actions, plain and simple.

The American people deserve better. We deserve leaders who respect the Constitution and uphold their oath to protect our democracy. Trump has proven time and time again that he is unfit for office. Whether it be his involvement in the insurrection or his recent calls for a coup, his actions speak louder than his empty words.

As we wait for the Supreme Court to make their decision, I hope that justice prevails. Trump needs to be held accountable for his actions, and it’s time for him to face the consequences of his behavior. Enough is enough. We cannot allow an oath-breaking insurrectionist to continue to threaten our democracy. It’s time to put an end to this madness and move forward with leaders who will truly serve the American people.
