Too many people – especially the “free-thinkers” – don’t stay in their lane. I do not profess to have enough knowledge of immunology to read the studies and understand them. However I am in a lucky position to have access to well trained medical doctors that do have an in-depth understanding, read these studies, and are up-to-date on the latest information. I trust these experts and ask them questions to help guide my actions concerning the vaccine, wearing masks, etc. I wouldn’t trust my dentist to tell me how to fix the transmission in my car. I trust my mechanic to do that. We need to all stay in our lane of expertise. Joe needs to stay in his lane. He taught GSP a turning side kick. good job Joe! But stay in your lane.
Tim Dillon brought this up with his Rotato rant about the Weinsteins, but it’s really true of all of the people in the IDW sphere. To use a non-COVID example, Jordan Peterson is a clinical psychologist. His daughter also got a degree in psychology and went to school for make-up and special effects or something like that. With no education in a relevant field, they’re pushing an all-meat diet using anecdotal evidence and zero science backing it up.
It’s a problem that extends beyond that group of people, as the internet is as much a curse as it is a blessing. People read some articles, watch some videos, aka “research,” and they are experts all of a sudden. I’m an economist/trader, have been doing this for over 20 years and have a graduate degree. A buddy who took remedial classes in high school and works in HVAC fucking lectured me on the supply chain issues and inflation for half an hour. He’s a good dude and fixed my furnace blower motor, but he has no clue what he’s talking about when he talks economics. He’s just parroting some shit he probably got from a YouTube video.
